If you have unwanted gift cards, and you’re trying to make some extra cash after Christmas, there are a couple of options for trading them in for money.
There are websites out there that will give you a percentage of your gift card value, either in cash, or through an Amazon.com gift card. Usually you need to have at least $25 on your card, and the trade in value can range from 60 to 85 percent of the value, depending on the merchant.
Alternatively, the same sites sell gift cards to most major stores that other people have traded in, with discounts that can save you from 5 to 20%.
If you are like me, and have extra gift cards left over from exchanges or otherwise, getting paid to get rid of them before they expire might be worth looking into. But be sure you don’t plan to use them, as the fraction of the value you’re given may not be worth it.
Two sites to check out are www.plasticjungle.com and www.giftcardrescue.com.

This reminds me of my “REALITY BITES” days when I was in my 20’s, broke and living in New York City. I would have a Bloomingdales Gift Card… buy pantyhose (ha! yes Nude pantyhose back in the day!) for 6 bucks and then pocket the 94 dollars cash I got in change.
